Johanniter has been active in South Sudan since 2011 and its humanitarian aid projects focus on health, nutrition & WASH in the Western Bahr el Ghazal region. The current projects are financed primarily by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), but also by UNICEF, WFP and private funds.
Johanniter's operational strategy and structures in South Sudan are currently undergoing a change and it will be an exciting task for the new Head of Mission to be part of the steering committee. The aim is to reposition Johanniter’s presence in South Sudan, reprioritise operational interventions and to acquire new donors. This will include also the identification of local/national partner organisations.
The Johanniter will continue to focus on WBeG in the future, but there is certainly a medium-term desire to expand geographically.
